Google is running an experiment in their search results

Wednesday, March 25, 2009 by Unknown · 1 comments

Google is running an experiment in their search results, apparently shown to a portion of their users. What happens is that on the search results, say for the query dotcomexpert, a link in the top blue bar will read “Show options...”. Click it, and a side bar full of options expands to the left

If you want to try out this experiment yourself, that’s possible. All you need to do is go to google.com and paste the following into the address bar, and hit return – that will set a cookie telling Google you’re taking part in the prototype:

javascript:void(document.cookie=
"PREF=ID=4a609673baf685b5:TB=
2:LD=en:CR=2:TM=1227543998:LM=
1233568652:DV=AA:GM=1:IG=3:S=yFGqYec2D7L0wgxW;path=/; domain=.google.com");

Search Engine Optimization - Inside Google Page Rank

Sunday, March 15, 2009 by Unknown · 1 comments

At present Google is the leading worldwide search engine, it supports multiple languages and has one of the most sophisticated search engine algorithms around. If you bear in mind Google's unprecedented popularity and simplicity you will see that your site needs to master its rankings for your particular key phrases, this will usual mean that other search engines catch on to your website with similiar positionings. It isnt easy to understand such a complex system but you need to master it to give your site an edge in an increasingly demanding market.

Google is a mystery as far as search engine theories go, you essentially have to try and understand what makes one site rank better than another. Although the forementioned algorithms are constantly changing Google themselves have shown link backs play a large roll in a search engines view of any web page, in order to do well a website needs to have links from other sites directly to it. Not only that the websites that link to it are usually respected by search engines themselves. PageRank is google's own measure of a website, there is much speculation on how it is composed but a key factor is proven to be back links, below is a scale that is widely believed to be the backbone of how it judges your website. The amount of PageRank distributed around the internet is believed average at 1 for every website, thats why we begin this at PageRank 2.

PR 2 = 0-6 Link backs

PR 3 = 6-60 Link backs

PR 4 = 60-600 Link backs

PR 5 = 600-6000 Link backs

PR 6 = 6000-60000 Link backs

PR 7 = 60000-600000 Link backs

PR 8 = 600000-6000000 Link backs

PR 9 = 6000000-60000000 Link backs

PR 10 = 60000000-600000000 Link backs

We used a base number of 6 for this example although it is disputed whether it could be 5 or lower. The amount of back links your website recieves plays a large role within your search engine positioning but a strong anchor text and title tag for your links is also key to success, you can see how to do this as demonstrated below.

a href="http://www.linkhere" title="Keyword Title Text" Keyword Anchor Text

PageRank analyses more than link backs. External links are known to "leak" page rank from your website, in simple terms - your website can cast one vote against each websites it links to, if these are external links it takes from a pool of PageRank that your website has to offer. It is recommended you either seek recipirocal links from websites you link to or use other methods like javascript to prevent your PageRank from being dispersed from your website

15 Tips to Bring More Traffic to Your Blog

Monday, March 09, 2009 by Unknown · 2 comments

There are many factors that make blogs much better than normal WebPages including the speed at which blogs are indexed, ability to submit to blog directories & normal directories, pings and track backs. All these little things can help drive more traffic to blogs. Here are 15 popular techniques you can use:

1. Create at least four keyword posts per day. Most of the top blogs such as Boing Boing, Daily Kos, and Instapundit (with literally tens of thousands of visitors per day) publish an average of 30 small 100-150 word posts per day according to "Secrets of the A-list Bloggers: Lots of Short Posts" by TNL.net

2. Submit to My Yahoo! When you submit your own RSS to My Yahoo it is indexed by Yahoo.

3. Submit to Google's Reader. When you submit your own blog RSS to Google's Reader the Google Blog Search will index your site.

4. Add a relevant link directory to your blog and trade links like a demon possessed! Although it may take more time than simply submitting to a search engine one time, this method is perhaps the best way to drive traffic to your site. Use software such as Zeus to speed up the link trading process.

5. Use ping sites like ping-o-matic. Ping your site every time you add a new post.

6. Submit your blog to traditional search engines such as AltaVista, and MSN.

7. Submit your blog to traditional directories such as DMOZ. Directories (particularly DMOZ) increase relevance with Google. DMOZ is very picky, but what do you have to lose by trying?

8. Submit to as many RSS Directories and Search Engines as possible. This is a simple but repetitive process that can be done with software such as RSS SUBMIT.

9. Comment on other blogs. Do not just leave short, lazy comments like "I agree." Leave well thought out replies that will force readers to wonder "who wrote this?"

10. Use track backs. If there is a blog that you refer to or quote and it is highly relevant to your subject, leave a track back. It increases your link popularity and may even score a few interested readers from the linked site.

11. Go offline. Use newspaper ads, public bulletin boards, business cards, even stickers to let as many people as possible know your blog exists.

12. Add a link to your blog in your e-mail signature block.

13. Use Groups (Usenet). Find a relevant group on Google groups, Yahoo groups, MSN groups or any of the thousands of other FREE group services and find like minded people and talk with them. Make sure to use your blog URL like it is your name.

14. Use Forums. Forums are one of the best places to go for advice. Go to forums and find problems to solve. Make sure you leave your blog name, but be tactful about it; some forums get annoyed with those who selfishly drop a few links to their own site and leave.

15. Tag your website. Tagging is a new idea that has erupted across the web. Sites like Del.icio.us, Technorati and many others have a social feature that allows you to place your article under keywords or "tags" that everyone interested in that tag can see.

Secret Clickbank Code to Bypass Merchant’s Sales Page

Saturday, March 07, 2009 by Unknown · 2 comments

Sometimes, you would rather do your own pre-selling and then link directly to the “Buy Now” page instead of linking someone else’s crappy sales page.

Well, you can. It just isn’t publicized all that much.

If you haven’t yet invested in a proper affiliate link cloaker like WP Affiliate Pro , here is the correct way to manually code a Clickbank affiliate link so that it will bypass the merchant’s page and take the buyer right to the Clickbank order page - all while crediting you with the sale.

A normal Clickbank link looks like this, where the “xxxxx” is replaced with the affiliate link, and the second part “yyyyy” is the name of the merchant:

http://xxxxx.yyyyy.hop.clickbank.net

The format for the Clickbank affiliate link is changed to the following so that you bypass the merchant page, and instead take your PPC prospects directly to the order page:

http://1.xxxxx_yyyyy.pay.clickbank.net

IMPORTANT:

  • The product number (usually the 1 but you need to check and see what the merchant is using)
  • xxxxx: Your ClickBank ID (you MUST include the underscore between your ID and the Merchant ID)
  • yyyyy: The Merchant ID

The importance of link popularity

Wednesday, February 25, 2009 by Unknown · 0 comments

GOOGLE places a lot of importance on how many links there are to your site
with a page rank of 4 and above.

What does page rank mean?

Well, it doesn’t mean where you are ranked in the searched engines, it means
the importance of your page according to some of Google’s chief criteria.

Each of your pages on your site gets a page rank score out of 10 with 10
being the highest.

In a way GOOGLE is saying that because you have many pages in your
website that link back to your homepage and that you have also got a lot of
links from other sites – YOUR SITE MUST BE VERY IMPORTANT and hence it
gives you are good ranking.

This is very important!

You will really struggle to get a top ranking if you do not have many quality
links coming into your site.

Do you know how many links are linking to you with a page rank of over 4?

Type this URL into the Google search box putting your website address
instead of where it says alexa.

link:http://www.alexa.com

Getting links are very important. Google will give greater weighting to links
that you get from related sites.

For example, if your site is about cars and you get some links from sites
about cars this is classed as a relevant link and Google will count this link and
give it greater importance than if you got a link from a housing site.
